My Experience Witnessing Non-Profit Organisations: Lessons Learned and Inspirations Gained

During the summer, I have had the privilege of witnessing various non-profit organisations throughout Thailand and how they operate and the impactful initiatives they undertake. For example, in one of the NPOs, in one of their initiatives, they opened up a sports hub and a study hub for the local children. They also educated the community on social issues such as child protection policies, ensuring the physical and mental wellbeing of the child as well as their safety. They also work with the community on sexual harassment policies, ensuring the safety of people in the community members. Along with challenging social issues, they also do much in the education side of things. One of the NPOs launched a literacy programme where they taught non-Thai children basic Thai for that to be able to be integrated into Thai schools as well as assimilating them into Thai society for a better future they could not otherwise receive in their home countries. Non-profit organisations play an essential role in helping different communities worldwide and striving to create a better and more equitable future for those who need it most. This article details the lessons I've learned and the inspirations I've gained from the experience.

Lessons Learned

Lesson 1: The Resilience of Hope. Throughout my experience, I visited various marginalised and impoverished communities living in deplorable conditions. However, there was a common theme among these people. They faced insurmountable challenges such as poverty and lack of access to necessities; however, despite the odds stacked against them, they maintained an unwavering sense of resilience and optimism for the future. It was one of those things where you could tell from their eyes optimism gleaming in their eyes that they were hopeful for a better future. Despite it all, these people continued to laugh, share stories, and empower one another. Their ability to do so shows that both hope and resilience are powerful forces to overcome adversity. Various initiatives empowering people through education, particularly children, added to this resilience of hope. Many of the children in these communities had their education disrupted for multiple reasons, such as civil war or the lack of basic infrastructure. These initiatives enabled these children to empower themselves and opened up new paths and possibilities where they could be more than a product of their environments and transcend that label. This made them realise that there was more to the world than what they saw and more to life than their environment; the world was their oyster, and with this realisation, they could uplift themselves and their families to a brighter future.

Lesson 2: The Power and Impact of Collaboration. Collaboration is not something to be underestimated, and it is a powerful tool that can be used to change the world. During my experience, I saw firsthand the work these NPOs did for the betterment of others. They had to work with local communities, governments and other NPOs to find common ground and an initiative that would work for all parties. They could then launch their initiatives with a larger outreach and more significant impact on the local communities. This highlighted how amazing humans can be if we put our minds together towards a common goal and how many people we can truly impact. With the power of collaboration, we can do wonderful things. We can uplift and empower one another for the better.

Inspirations Gained:

Taking Action. Witnessing the conditions that these communities lived in and interacting with the people living in them was a surreal and eye-opening experience for me. Seeing children the same age as me and some even younger lack necessities, infrastructure and education and living in these unfit conditions was shocking. Having come from a privileged background and not having to worry about a thing, my matters seemed so trivial compared to theirs. I would complain about the slow Wi-Fi when these children don't even know where their next meal comes from. The whole experience urged me to take action and help in whatever way I can. The experience only made me want to have an impact on society and work towards the betterment of the local communities around me a lot more.

Giving Back. Seeing NP staff and volunteers dedicate so much of their time and resources to their cause was inspiring and has urged me to do the same to make a positive impact on society. Being among them has made me more passionate about helping others and makes me want to make a genuine difference in people's lives. Being with them allowed me to understand to a deeper extent the struggles of the people and has increased my compassion and empathy for others in need. I now not only realise that it benefits the people who need it, but it is part of our duty as responsible citizens and our collective responsibility to work and strive towards the betterment of our society.

Final Words: Overall, gaining a sense of understanding and insight into how NPOs work and witnessing the dedication of these people is awe-inspiring. It has impacted my outlook on life and made me grateful for the life I live, the roof over my head, and the people around me. Seeing communities in such poor conditions yet being resilient and hopeful in the face of adversity and yet continuing to smile and laugh despite it all has taught me another level of determination that knows no bounds. I've learned that having hope in the face of adversity is the bravest thing you can do. And if you ask me, we need much more hope in this world. It is a powerful thing, and I will carry it forward, and I only ask that you do the same. Because only with hope can we see the good in others and empower and uplift one another for a better world. 

ช่วงปิดเทอมผมมีโอกาสไปสังเกตการณ์องค์กรไม่แสวงหาผลกำไรหลายแห่งในประเทศไทยได้ไปดูการทำงานที่ตั้งใจเพื่อเด็ก ๆ บางองค์กรก็สร้างศูนย์กีฬาและศูนย์การเรียนรู้ สำหรับเด็กในท้องถิ่นให้ความรู้คนในละแวกนั้นเกี่ยวกับปัญหาสังคม เช่น นโยบายการปกป้องเด็กทั้งกายและใจและร่วมมือกับชุมชนเรื่องนโยบายการคุกคามทางเพศให้ทุกคนในชุมชนใช้ชีวิตอย่างไร้ความกังวลในด้านการศึกษาองค์กรต่าง ๆ ก็ทำประโยชน์มากมาย เช่น โครงการอ่านเขียนให้เด็กชนชาติอื่นเรียนภาษาไทยเบื้องต้นเพื่อเตรียมตัวก่อนเข้าโรงเรียน และอยู่ร่วมกับเพื่อน ๆ ในสังคมได้องค์กรไม่แสวงหาผลกำไรทั่วโลกมีส่วนสำคัญสร้างโอกาสให้ทุกคนอย่างเท่าเทียมกันและเปลี่ยนแปลงสังคมไปในทิศทางที่ดีขึ้นบทความนี้ผมจะเล่าสิ่งที่ผมได้เรียนรู้และแรงบันดาลใจจากการสังเกตการณ์ครั้งนี้ครับ

สิ่งที่ผมได้เรียนรู้

1.ยืนหยัดและมีความหวัง

ผมเดินทางไปชุมชนที่ต้องการความช่วยเหลือเป็นจำนวนมาก ซึ่งมีสภาพแวดล้อมไม่ค่อยสู้ดีนักจากประสบการณ์ที่ผ่านมาปัญหาของคนกลุ่มนี้เขามักมีคล้ายกันอย่างความยากลำบากที่เกินจะผ่านพ้นไปได้ เช่น ความยากจนการไม่สามารถเข้าถึงสิ่งจำเป็นในชีวิตแต่เชื่อไหมครับต่อให้ปัญหาเยอะแค่ไหนพวกเขาก็ยังตั้งตารออนาคตที่สดใสพร้อมปรับตัวและตั้งรับวิกฤตต่าง ๆ แค่สบตาเขาก็เห็นถึงความตั้งใจอีกทั้งในชุมชนยังมีเสียงหัวเราะพูดคุยแชร์เรื่องส่งต่อกำลังใจให้กัน ผมสัมผัสถึงนิสัยของตุ๊กตาล้มลุกการมีความหวังที่พร้อมจะเอาชนะความทุกข์ยากความก้าวหน้าของผู้คนเกิดจากการศึกษาโดยเฉพาะในเด็ก ๆ จะเพิ่มความยืนหยัดในการเอาชนะความทุกข์ยากได้พื้นที่ที่ผมไปเด็กส่วนใหญ่ถูกตัดขาดจากระบบการศึกษาเพราะหลายสาเหตุ เช่น สงคราม , การเดินทางที่ยากลำบากรวมไปถึงไม่มีโรงเรียนการศึกษาจะปลดล็อกให้เด็กเจอเส้นทางและโอกาสใหม่ ๆ เติบโตได้แม้สภาพแวดล้อมที่ไม่เอื้ออำนวยก็ตามซึ่งเด็ก ๆ จะได้เห็นโลกความหลากหลายของ โลกใบนี้ไม่ใช่แค่สิ่งที่เจอในสภาพแวดล้อมที่เขาอยู่พร้อมย้ำให้เด็กรู้เขาสามารถมีสามารถเป็นทุกสิ่งได้และประสบความสำเร็จในแบบของตนเอง ขณะที่ยกระดับคุณภาพชีวิตครอบครัวอีกด้วย  

2.พลังและผลจากการร่วมมือร่วมใจ

ทักษะการทำงานร่วมกัน เป็นสิ่งที่ทุกคนควรมีเพราะมันเป็นแรงผลักให้เกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลงของโลกใบนี้ช่วงที่ผมสังเกตการณ์สิ่งที่เหล่าองค์กรไม่แสวงหาผลกำไรให้ความสำคัญเป็นอันดับหนึ่งคือการช่วยเหลือผู้คนให้มีชีวิตที่ดีขึ้นองค์กรทุ่มเททำงานกับคนในชุมชน รัฐบาล และองค์กรอื่น ๆ เพื่อหาจุดร่วมกันกับทุกฝ่ายในการตกลงกันหลังจากนั้นจึงจะเริ่มโครงการพัฒนาชุมชนต่อไปนี่แหละเป็นเรื่องมหัศจรรย์ของมนุษย์เมื่อพวกเราสามัคคี มันช่วยกระตุ้นศักยภาพของกันและกัน จนสร้างสิ่งที่ดีขึ้นกว่าเดิมทำให้อะไรก็เกิดขึ้นได้ 

จุดประกายแรงบันดาลใจ

จงลงมือทำ

การได้ไปสังเกตการณ์สถานที่ชุมชนและได้พูดคุยกับคนพื้นที่มันเปิดประสบการณ์ให้ผมรู้สึกเหมือนฝันผมเห็นคนวัยเดียวกับผม ส่วนบางคนก็เด็กกว่าพวกเขาขาดแคลนสิ่งจำเป็นในชีวิตทั้งโครงสร้างพื้นฐานถนนหนทางและการศึกษาผมสะเทือนใจ ที่เห็นเขาต้องอยู่ในสภาพแวดล้อมแบบนั้นเมื่อเทียบกับพวกเขาปัญหาของผมดูเล็กไปเลยผมไม่ต้องกังวลเรื่องอะไรเลยในชีวิตแต่ผมจะเครียดแค่เวลาอินเทอร์เน็ตช้า ขณะที่พวกเขายังไม่รู้เลยมื้อต่อไปจะได้กินข้าวหรือเปล่าทุกสิ่งที่ผมเจอในชุมชนแห่งนี้ มันทำให้ผมต้องเริ่มทำอะไรสักอย่างเพื่อช่วยพวกเขาและสอนผมให้คิดถึงส่วนร่วมเร่งให้ผมพัฒนาชุมชนแถวบ้านให้ดีขึ้น

ส่งต่อคืนให้กับสังคม

การเห็นพนักงานขององค์กรและอาสาสมัครท่านอื่น ๆ ตั้งใจช่วยเหลือสังคมมันทำให้ผมอยากเป็นแบบพวกเขาบ้างอยากช่วยเหลือชีวิตคนยากไร้ให้ดีขึ้นผมได้เข้าใจความยากลำบากของผู้คนรู้สึกเห็นอกเห็นใจพวกเขาและไม่อยากเห็นใครต้องทุกข์ทรมานอีกต่อไปตอนนี้รู้แล้วว่า การทำให้สังคมดีขึ้นและเดินต่อไปข้างหน้าได้เป็นหน้าที่ของเราทุกคน 

สิ่งที่ผมอยากบอกทุกคน

การที่ผมได้มาสังเกตการณ์ และเข้าใจเบื้องหลังขององค์กรไม่แสวงหาผลกำไรขอชื่นชมในการเสียสละของทุกฝ่ายมากครับผมเห็นชุมชนที่ขาดแคลนแต่ก็ยืนหยัดและมีความหวังคนในชุมชนยิ้มและหัวเราะคิดตลอดว่าจะผ่านความยากลำบากนี้ไปได้มันแสดงถึงความตั้งใจที่ไม่มีขอบเขตเลยจริงๆซึ่งช่วยเตือนผมให้กลับมาทบทวนตัวเองขอบคุณกับสิ่งที่มีทั้งที่อยู่อาศัยและผู้คนรอบตัวบทเรียนที่ผมได้จากที่นี่ความกล้าหาญที่มีพลังมากที่สุดคือการหวังว่าสักวันจะผ่านจากสถานการณ์เลวร้ายไปได้เราทุกคนต้องมีความหวังครับ มันเป็นสิ่งที่มีพลังและตัวผมก็จะจำสิ่งนี้ให้แม่นทุกคนก็ด้วยนะครับ สุดท้ายทุกครั้งที่มีความหวังและเห็นข้อดีในเพื่อนมนุษย์ทุกคนคอยช่วยเหลือกันและกันโลกใบนี้ต้องดีขึ้นกว่าเดิมแน่นอน
